Be-Do-Have Part 2.3.B

2.3.B Ministry & Talents: Serving from Sacred Design

 1. Biblical Foundation

A. SHAPE Model (1 Peter 4:10–11)

- Spiritual Gifts: Prophecy, teaching, mercy (Romans 12:6–8).

- Heart: Passion for specific needs (e.g., Nehemiah’s burden for Jerusalem).

- Abilities: Natural skills (Bezalel’s craftsmanship, Exodus 31:1–5).

- Personality: Introverts (Mary’s contemplation, Luke 10:39) vs. extroverts (Peter’s evangelism).

- Experiences: Paul’s persecution fueled his mission (Acts 9:15–16).

B. Jesus’ Model (Mark 10:45)

- BE: "Son of Man" (identity).

- DO: "Serve and give His life" (action).

- HAVE: "Ransom for many" (result).

 2. Practical Applications

A. Discovering Your SHAPE

- Assessment Tool:

  1. Take a spiritual gifts test (e.g., SHAPE Assessment).

  2. Journal about moments of deep fulfillment—what were you doing?

  3. Ask mentors: "Where do you see God’s fingerprints on my life?"

B. Serving with Balance

- Martha vs. Mary (Luke 10:38–42):

  - DO without BE → Burnout (Martha’s frustration).

  - BE before DO → Fruitfulness (Mary’s listening posture).

- Rule of Thumb: 70% existing gifts, 30% growth areas (to avoid stagnation).

C. Modern Ministry Forms

- Digital Missions:

  - DO: Use platforms like Instagram for Bible storytelling (Matthew 28:19).

  - Warning: Avoid "vanity metrics" (compare to Acts 2:41 – conversions, not likes).

- Micro-Ministry:

  - Example: Baking for neighbors with prayer cards (Colossians 3:17).

 3. Overcoming Barriers

A. Comparison Trap

- Lie: "My talent isn’t as valuable as hers."

- Truth: "The body needs all parts" (1 Corinthians 12:14–20).

B. Fear of Failure

- Strategy: Start small (Zechariah 4:10 – "Do not despise small beginnings").

C. Overcommitment

- Tool: "Holy No" – Pray before adding roles (Ephesians 5:15–17).

 4. Case Studies

A. Bezalel (Exodus 31:1–5)

- BE: "Filled with God’s Spirit."

- DO: Crafted tabernacle artifacts.

- HAVE: Legacy in worship design.

B. The Samaritan Woman (John 4)

- BE: Seen and valued by Jesus.

- DO: Testified to her town.

- HAVE: Many believed.

 5. Reflection & Tools

- Journal Prompt: "If no one would ever praise me, what would I still love doing for God?"

- SMART Spiritual Goals:

  - Specific: Lead a monthly prison ministry.

  - Measurable: Share the Gospel with 3 strangers/month.

  - Adaptive: Adjust if health declines.

 Integration with Overall Framework

- Links to 2.1: Works flow from grace (Ephesians 2:8–10).

- Links to 2.2: Divine patterns prioritize obedience over visibility (Matthew 6:3–4).

Worksheet Idea:

- "Ministry Map": Chart your SHAPE, then list 3 ways to serve in your current season.

> "God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called—then their work becomes worship."
