Be-Do-Have Introduction - Lost in a Fast-Paced World? The Christian's Antidote: The BE-DO-HAVE Framework

Introduction

The Challenges Facing Young People in a Rapidly Changing World

Today’s world offers countless paths to success, yet it is also filled with pitfalls that can lead us astray. Christian young adults today are growing up amid a relentless flow of information, ever-increasing standards of success, and unprecedented social pressures. Social media portrays an illusion of instant success—wealthy, popular, and powerful young individuals—as if these achievements can be attained quickly and effortlessly. Yet, behind the screens, many are trapped in mental exhaustion, loss of identity, and a sense of emptiness despite having achieved what the world defines as "success."

Amid this chaos, fundamental questions arise:

- How can we pursue our dreams without losing our true selves?

- How can we remain faithful to our spiritual values while competing in a world that often encourages compromise?

This is why the "BE → DO → HAVE" framework is so relevant—not just as a success principle but as a biblical foundation for life. This pattern is not merely motivational theory; it is the very order God established at creation:

1. BE (Identity): God existed before all things (Genesis 1:1).

2. DO (Action): God created with His word (Genesis 1:3).

3. HAVE (Result): God saw all He had made and declared it "very good" (Genesis 1:31).

Jesus, in His three temptations in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1–11), rejected the shortcuts offered by the devil because He adhered to this pattern. Satan tried to reverse it:

- "Turn stones into bread" → Pursuing HAVE (physical needs) without relying on the Father.

- "Throw Yourself down from the temple" → Proving BE (identity - in Christ) through spectacle.

- "Bow down and gain the kingdoms of the world" → Achieving HAVE (power) by worshiping the wrong thing.

But Jesus triumphed because He chose to:

1. BE first: "I am the Son of God" (without needing to prove it).

2. DO the Father’s will: "Man shall live by God’s word" (obedience even in hunger).

3. HAVE in God’s timing: "Worship the Lord alone" (total surrender).

For young Christians today, this pattern offers answers to their struggles:

- When the world says, "Accumulate as much as possible," God reminds us that life is not about possessions (Luke 12:15).

- When the world whispers, "Prove who you are," Scripture affirms that our identity is secure in Christ (1 Peter 2:9).

- When the world tempts, "Gain power by any means," Jesus shows that the way of the cross leads to true victory (Philippians 2:5–11).

This writing serves as a guide for young people who want to strive diligently while remaining rooted in truth. We will explore:

- How to discover our true identity (BE) in a world that defines us by achievements.

- How to take right action (DO) without falling into empty ambition.

- How to approach results (HAVE)—both success and failure—with an eternal perspective.

This is not about rejecting hard work or aspirations but about building our lives on an unshakable foundation. As Jesus said,

"Everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock" (Matthew 7:24).

Let us begin this journey with the first step: Being (BE) as God created us.
